Most online daters are honest and straightforward, however some of them seriously misrepresent themselves.

Here are some safety tips:

- When you are interested in dating someone - look at their entire profile.

- Be cautious of people without photos or whose photos are unclear and blurry

- Watch out for persons who seem to be especially angry or needy or who disclose personal problems in their profile

- Ask your friends who used online dating services about their experiences

- Do not share your personal information, for example your last name, home phone, your address and workplace information until you feel comfortable with the person

- If you know the full name of the person, search for his or her information on a search engine to see what you find
